Calgary came on down … to Stampede Park in droves for the Price is Right’s road show. It wasn’t quite the real deal — a limited selection of games, lower stakes and host Drew Carey nowhere to be found, but for true fans, it was just as good.

The Price Is Right Live, a touring stage show based on the long-running CBS game show hosted by Todd Newton, is a heck of a lot of fun. I attended the 9:30 PM Friday night show at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. They did four shows over two days, selling out a 3,000-seat theatre each time, showing how popular the prospect of seeing Price is in the mid-Michigan area.

After more than 40 years on television, the venerable TV game show “The Price is Right” is on the road. “The Price is Right Live!” coming Tuesday night to Davenport’s Adler Theatre, will bring all of the lights, sounds and especially the winnings of the television version.

Being sick in grade school wasn’t so bad. Beyond the chicken noodle soup, getting to skip school and the extra pampering from Mom, it meant being home on a weekday to watch “The Price is Right.” No other game show — not “Jeopardy!,” “Family Feud” or “Wheel of Fortune” — can claim the longevity or worldwide ubiquity of “The Price is Right.”
